Another wonderful month of Julep! This time, I decided to be frugal and NOT purchase the full upgrade....(tempted tempted).....but I did stick to my profile selection of Boho Glam!
This month we Sail into Summer with their preppy Nantucket Nostalgia Collection...so grab your cape cod drink, plop on your floppy beach hat and let's get polishing!
Here is my Boho Glam box! -
This month's VERY anticipated box! Can you see why yet?
Once again, their packaging is fabulous. Perfect colors that'll give you that Nantucket feel. If you've ever been there or have seen pictures, you might notice that the houses and buildings (especially in the historic sections) all have similar colorations and paint schemes. I think Julep did a fabulous job following along with polishes that are very reminiscent of that Nantucket flavor!

What's that I keep hearing you say? DD Creme? There's a DD CREME?! ....why YES, there is! Let's take a look! -
JULEP'S DD CREME in Light
Julep is the first company to come out with what is supposed to be a new improved cream that is the next step from the CC Creams! BB Creams are known as "Beauty Balms", CC Creams are "Color Control or Color Correcting", now Julep's DD Creme is the "Dynamic Do-All! According to Julep's website this creme is:
"...a dynamic do-all makeup that goes beyond BB Creme to moisturize, prime, perfect and protect - both instantly and over time." - from Julep's website
I was so stoked to try out this new product! They produced this new creme in four different shades: Light, Medium, Medium-Dark and Dark. I (obviously, being an Irish ghost), received the Light shade and when I first swatched it on my hand...I was SO worried.
It looked SO orange tinted against my pale skin! ::gasp, faint::
So I tried blending it out a bit:
More gasping and fainting!....biting nails at this point really. (Just kidding, not to worry mani lovers!) It just seemed TOO dark for me. So I just went for it and completely blended it out all over the back of my hand:
THAT LOOK THAT YOU HAVE RIGHT NOW WAS MY FACE TOO!
I was like WHOA! It completely blended into my skin! If you compare the coloration of my hand in the first picture (just the drop of product) and this one with the product blended out, you can't really tell it changed the coloring of my skin at all! HOWEVER, you CAN see that it did indeed fill in the small lines, smooth out the skin and add a soft dewy freshness! Shortly after, I went ahead and did my face for the day and I have to say, I LOVED it! It seems a little stickier than my normal BB Cream but it blends right out. What's also great about this product is that it IS layerable. So I started with a nice thin layer and built up the product until I was pleased with the coverage. It fills in fine lines nicely and it does actually leave your face a little dewy, which you can go with if that's what you like, OR you can lightly brush some setting powder over it, which is what I did and it will tone down the dewiness and leave your face nice and matte! The coverage lasted all day for me, did not smudge or smear and I even spent a few hours outside in the hot, humid sun directly in sunlight with a delicious Mocha Cookie Crumble (named after me, OBVIOUSLY) from Starbucks and some fabulous chit-chat with my girl, Jorden....and now I've gone off on a tangent and want a Mocha Cookie Crumble.....
Back to the DD Creme...I would have taken a picture of myself wearing it, but you totally can't tell the difference between it and my other photos! The coloring just blends right into my skin tone and it looks natural and fresh. I think this Creme is perfect for the Summer when you just want that fresh, bright, complete coverage for your face AND it contains SPF 25, so even in the hot sun this Creme has got you covered in more ways than one. ::wink wink:: It contains two anti-aging ingredients that decrease the appearance of fine-lines and wrinkles over time, it has hibiscus and olive extracts to keep your skin hydrated AND if you feel that isn't enough for you, if you feel like you need MORE coverage and correction, Julep also has the DD Creme Concealer! The concealer is supposed to Disguise and Diminish the appearance of dark circles, discoloration, redness, blemishes and other skin problems.
What more could a girl ask for? Well, plenty more, but that's not the point....this product is fabulous!
And NOW, on to the polishes!
BOHO GLAM POLISHES - DIANNA & LEXIE
So bright and charming!
Once again, Julep has knocked it out of the park with these two polishes. I find their cremes extremely easy to work with and of wonderful quality.
With Dianna you could seriously get away with just one coat if you needed to. It glides on so well and spreads/lays out nicely. I went ahead and did two coats of Dianna for this picture. Lexie is also such a fun color! Lexie was a teensy bit more streaky than Dianna, and I'd recommend two coats for full opacity, but believe it or not, my pointer finger only has one coat on it! (I put on a TEENSY bit too much from my brush on that finger, so I let it dry longer and went ahead and put a second coat on my middle finger). This combo is funky, summery, bright and excellent paired together. I had no issues with running, pooling or terrible streaks. Drying time was the normal 15-25 minutes (I live in a very humid city, so it may vary depending on your climate).
BONUS ITEMS: DOLLE'S SALT WATER TAFFY
How cute and fun is this for a Nantucket themed box?!
Dolle's is a salt water taffy, caramel corn and fine candy store located in Maryland that was built back in 1910 by Rudolph and Amelia Dolle once they were inspired by the up and coming seaside resort in Ocean City, Maryland.
I think this is the perfect little touch to our box and although I can't eat them (mean ol' diet, plus I had my Starbucks treat this week...no more...although that chocolate salt water taffy is calling out to me) I still love them! They're too darn cute not to love! I did hear the Lime and Strawberry were delicious though, I graciously gave them to a friend. Yes, I didn't mention the chocolate one, and no, I didn't throw it away. It's stored away for safe keeping for when the time is right! Teehee.
WORTH AND PURCHASE:
All are full-size items!
Julep DD Creme in Light: $32 ($25.60 for Maven Subscribers)

Here was my exciting surprise for the month...I won 2nd place in last month's Be Good To Yourself Challenge! Here is what the challenge is all about and what this month's theme is:
1st Place winner gets 3 free months of Maven Julep boxes, 2nd Place gets 2 free months and 3rd place gets one!
Last month was the 1920's Set the Stage Collection which I upgraded for and received the entire collection (Click HERE to read post) so I took a 1920's glam picture using the products from that box! -
I featured the Charleston lipstick from their Paris Jazz Lipstick Trio, the American Beauty Volumizing Mascara, and Coco, the oxblood creme polish from the May It Girl polish set. I won 2nd place so this month's Boho Glam box was free! Of course, since my profile box was free, I couldn't help but add-on a few more from the Nantucket Nostalgia collection to my box for their add-on prices! So I snagged Bunny, Char and Raegan as well!
If you've received this month's Nantucket Nostalgia box, you should definitely enter their contest! I certainly am glad I did!
FINALE
So now, I'll leave off this post with what was on the included June 2013 Julep card:
This summer, remember...
"Style isn't just about what you wear. It's about how you live." - Lilly Pulitzer
So live gorgeously ladies!
Happy Makeuping!
Love,
Cookie
Great review! The DD cream is a bit too dewy for my oily skin, at least for the summer, but I'm thinking it will work well in the winter for me.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! You should definitely try it out then and see how it does! It does seem a little dewy at first on me, but my mineralized setting powder did the trick!
DeleteWow that DD cream really blended out well, I was thinking there is no way she is going to be able to wear that, she may have to give it to me LOL :)
ReplyDeleteI love those nail polishes, especially the yellow as I am yet to find a good yellow polish that actually goes on well.
Your willpower is strong because I would have scarfed down that taffy in the blink of an eye.
Love that last photo of you, so pretty, reminds me of a Hollywood glam look.
LOL....magic DD cream!
DeleteI did end up eating the chocolate one ::halo sparkles::
thanks for the sweet compliment! :-D
Great review and photos! 15-25 minutes dry time for polish would drive me crazy; I'm so addicted to my quick-dry top coats. I just polished my nails and they were dry in like two minutes after my Seche Vite top coat. Poshe is better if you want less chemicals.
ReplyDeleteThanks, now I'm dying for a Mocha Cookie Crumble. Being as I usually do my blog reading between 1:00 and 2:00 am, I don't think it's going to happen.
I'm glad you had a good experience with the DD creme. That blend-out was pretty amazing.
Thank you! Yes, this humidity does make the drying time very ridiculous lol
ReplyDeleteand now I want a Mocha Cookie Crumble too....it's 2:30am here at the moment. ::HUGS KATRINA:: we can both suffer together! lol
